Zion Agmon

Jun 5, 2002 - Zion Agmon, 50, of Hadera, was one of 17 people killed when a car packed with a large quantity of explosives struck Egged bus No. 830 traveling from Tel-Aviv to Tiberias at the Megiddo junction near Afula.

The attack took place at about 7:15 in the morning. The force of the explosion lifted the bus into the air, and reduced the car carrying the bomb to charred metal. The car exploded near the gasoline tank of the bus, causing it to burst into flames. Most of the casualties were soldiers who were on their way to their bases. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

Attorney Zion Agmon was on his way to the Tiberias courthouse with his only son, Yuval, who was going to his base near the Golani junction. Yuval was injured in the blast. Agmon's neighbor, Moshe Jerbi described him as "a modest man of simple tastes. "I was very lucky to have him as a neighbor."

Zion served in the past as a police prosecutor in Netanya, and afterwards opened a private practice in Netanya. He also served on the directorate of the local radio station "Emtza Haderech" and was a member of the Or association which provided aid to the needy. The Agmons moved to Hadera six years ago.

Zion Agmon was buried in Hadera. He is survived by wife, Margalit, and his son Yuval, 19.
