Suheila Hushi

Apr 12, 2002 - Suheila Hushi, 48, of Jerusalem was killed by a woman suicide bomber who detonated a powerful charge at a bus stop on Jaffa road next to the entrance to Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda open-air market. Another 104 people were injured in the blast, among them nine Arabs. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.

Suheila Hushi imigrated to Israel with her husband from Iran. She worked in an old-age home.

"My mother was a strong woman," said her daughter Rivka. "She took care of the house and family even when a disease confined her to a wheelchair for half a year," said her daughter Riki. Suheila shopped in Mahane Yehuda every Friday.

Suheila's funeral was at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Several hours later, Riki gave birth to Suheila's second grandchild, a granddaughter that Suheila will never see. "That's fate," said Riki's mother-in-law, "life ends and a new life begins."

Suheila Hushi was buried in the Kfar Shaul cemetery in Jerusalem. She leaves behind her husband Yosef, daughters Riki Tourbati 22 and Orit 8, sons Lior 19 and Hezi 16 and one grandchild.
