Sgt. Merom Fisher

Apr 5, 2002 - Sgt. Merom Fisher, 19, of Moshav Avigdor; was killed in an exchange of fire between IDF troops and Palestinian gunmen in Jenin (Operation Defensive Shield).

Merom was active in a scouting group. He served in the Golani Brigade. A few days before he was killed, he left a message for his girlfriend "you are the love of my life." Later, he left an explanation, "I wrote what I wrote because ... if something happens to me, I would want you to know that you are everything to me."

Merom was given a weekend leave, but on the way home, he saw that his commander was phoning him and felt that he'd be asked to return. Merom barely managed to reach home and say hello before he received the order to return. He asked his father to drive him to the junction to journey back to his unit. "We rode to the junction with difficult feelings and spoke about the war. We said it was justified, but we must continue to be humane and avoid injuring innocent people." Before leaving home,

Sgt. Merom Fisher was buried in the cemetery at Moshav Avigdor. He is survived by his parents, Giora and Dorit, and brothers, Yair 22 and Gilad 12.
