Ze'ev Vider
Apr 2, 2002 - Ze'ev Vider, 50, of Beka'ot was one of 28 people killed in a suicide bombing in the Park Hotel in the coastal city of Netanya, in the midst of the Passover holiday seder. On the eve of Passover, the terrorist walked into the dining room of the hotel, located in the center of Netanya, where 250 guests had just sat down to begin the seder. He detonated an explosive device, killing 22 immediately and injuring 140, six of whom died later. The bomber was identified as a member of the Hamas Iz a Din al-Kassam Brigades, from the West Bank city of Tulkarem, which is just 10 kilometers (six miles) east of Netanya. He was on the list of wanted terrorists Israel had Ze'ev Vider was seriously injured in the suicide bomb attack and died of his injuries six days later. Ze'ev, who formerly served in the regular army, was working in Nigeria. He returned to Israel for the Passover holiday. He was described by a family friend as "an officer and a gentlemen, a dedicated family man". His family donated his organs for transplants; one of his kidneys was transplanted into a 45-year old Arab woman from Jerusalem. "He loved to help anyone in a difficult situation and I think this step is in keeping with his character," said his son. Ze'ev's daughter Sivan, 21, was also killed in the attack. A second daughter, Gili, was moderately injured and her fiance, Avraham Beckerman, was killed. Ze'ev's wife, Zahava, was slightly injured. Ze'ev Vider was buried in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery in Tel-Aviv alongside his daughter Sivan. He leaves behind his wife, his daughter Gili and son Nimrod. |
