St.-Sgt. Sivan Vider


Mar 27, 2002 - St.-Sgt. Sivan Vider, 20, of Bekaot was one of 28 people killed in a suicide bombing in the Park Hotel in the coastal city of Netanya, in the midst of the Passover holiday seder.

On the eve of Passover, the terrorist walked into the dining room of the hotel, located in the center of Netanya, where 250 guests had just sat down to begin the seder. He detonated an explosive device, killing 22 immediately and injuring 140, six of whom died later. The bomber was identified as a member of the Hamas Iz a Din al-Kassam Brigades, from the West Bank city of Tulkarem, which is just 10 kilometers (six miles) east of Netanya. Sivan Vider attended the local Jordan Valley elementary and junior high schools. She attended the Ben Shemen boarding high school, majoring in product design. St.-Sgt. Sivan Vider served as an IDF course instructor. After completing her army service in a month, she planned to travel to Thailand.

Sivan was at the seder organized by her grandparents for the rest of the family. Her father, Ze'ev Vider, seriously hurt in the blast, died six days later. Her mother Zahava was lightly injured, and her older sister, Gili suffered moderate injuries. Gili's fiance, Avraham Beckerman, who was attending the family seder, was killed in the attack.

St.-Sgt. Sivan Vider was buried in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery in Tel-Aviv. She leaves behind her mother, her sister Gili and brother Nimrod.
