Alon Goldenberg
Mar 20, 2002 - Alon Goldenberg, 28, of Tel Aviv, was one of seven people killed in a suicide bombing of an Egged bus No. 823 traveling from Tel Aviv to Nazareth at the Musmus junction on Highway 65 (Wadi Ara) near Afula. The attack occurred around 7 AM., shortly after the No. 823 Egged bus had stopped to take on passengers at the Umm el-Fahm junction. A few moments later, the terrorist detonated the explosives strapped to his body, blowing himself up and killing or wounding all of those with him on the bus, which was completely gutted. Alon Goldenberg, who was on his way to Nazareth to take care of errands, was one of four soldiers and three civilians killed in the blast. Alon was born and grew up in Tel-Aviv, where he attended high school. After serving in an IDF anti-aircraft unit, Alon traveled extensively in South America and the Far East. Recently he had been involved in the building of a youth village near Nitzanim. Alon loved the sea, and to surf. His father Shlomo is a well-known fisherman in Jaffa. Alon, who often helped his father at sea, was called Dagim (fish) by his friends. He was also an amateur photographers, and had taken thousands of nature photos all over the world. Alon Goldenberg was buried in the Yarkon cemetery in Tel-Aviv. He is survived by his parents and a younger brother.
