Devorah Friedman

Mar 5, 2002 - Devorah Friedman, 45, of Efrat, was killed in shooting attack on the Bethlehem bypass "tunnel" road, south of Jerusalem.

Devorah Friedman was driving to work in Jerusalem with her husband Yona at about 8:15 A.M. when they were ambushed by a Palestinian terrorist near the Al-Khader junction, who fired 15 bullets at their car. Devorah was mortally wounded and her husband was injured in the attack.

Devorah immigrated to Israel from France about 30 years ago as a young girl and grew up in Jerusalem. She attended the Horav religious girls' school in Jerusalem and after graduating did national service in lieu of army service. After marrying Yona, they lived for 10 years in Kiryat Arba, and for the last 15 years in Gush Etzion. They moved to a new house in Efrat just three months ago. Dvora worked in Jerusalem as a dental hygienist.

Her husband said, "Last Saturday, it was as if you wanted to say goodbye to all of us. We moved into our new home three months ago and just had a party. You said, 'At last we have a big house.' Today this house is empty."

Devorah Friedman was buried in the Kfar Etzion cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Yona, and four children: Shlomo (23), Amichai (19), Nesiya (16) and Eliraz (9).
