Sgt. Tzachi David


Sept 11, 2001 - Sgt. Tzachi David, 19, of Tel-Aviv was killed when Palestinian gunmen opened fire on the Ivtan Border Police base near Kibbutz Bachan in central Israel.

At approximately 00:15, Palestinian terrorist opened fire on the Ivtan Border Police base near Kibbutz Bachan in central Israel. Two Border Police officers who were on guard duty at the entrance to the base, Corporal Tzachi David and St.-Sgt. Andrei Zledkin were killed in the attack, both shot in the head as they patrolled inside the security fence of the base near the entrance gate; another officer was wounded. The terrorists apparently fled into nearby Palestinian villages in the area of Tulkarem.

Tzachi, who had been an honors student in biology at the Lady David high school in Tel-Aviv, had just celebrated his 19th birthday with his family a week ago. His elder sister Hila (18) just enlisted in the army last week. On Monday night at about 22:00 PM he had phoned his mother and said that he would soon finish his guard duty and go to bed. He was killed two hours later.

Sgt. Tzachi David was buried in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery in Tel-Aviv. He left behind his parents, Sammy and Carmela, and two younger sisters, 15 and 18.
