Sgt. Daniel Yifrah


Sept 9, 2001 - Sgt. Daniel Yifrah, 19, of Jerusalem was killed in a suicide bombing near the Nahariya train station in northern Israel.

Daniel Yifrah began his army service about a year ago, and on Sunday morning was returning to his base in northern Israel, after spending the weekend vacationing with friends in Tiberias. He had stayed in Tel-Aviv on Saturday night in order to catch the morning train to Nehariya. A terrorist carrying a bomb waited near the train station in Nahariya until the train arrived from Tel-Aviv. As the passengers were exiting the station, he detonated the bomb. Sgt. Danny lived with his family in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood in northern Jerusalem amd studied at the high school of the arts. His friends described him as a great actor, a gifted writer and musician. He loved soccer, and had many friends. Jonathan Friedman, Danny's friend since first grade, said, "There was no one who didn't love him. He was the best person, he couldn't hurt a fly."

Sgt. Daniel Yifrah was buried in the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, Ami and Anika, and his sister Michal (22).
