Meir Lichtenberg
Aug 27, 2001 - Meir Lichtenberg, 38, of Itamar, was shot and killed by Palestinian terrorists from a roadside ambush while traveling between the communities of Har Bracha and Itamar, south of Nablus. Meir Lichtenberg was returning home from Elon Moreh, where he worked as an electrician and maintenance man at the yeshiva, when terrorists opened fire. Shot in the head and critically injured, he died of his wounds soon after being airlifted to hospital. The other three occupants of the car were uninjured. Lichtenberg grew up in Kibbutz Lavi. His father had immigrated to Israel from the United Kingdom, and his mother from South Africa. They have three other children - Shelley, Gila, and Raphael. Meir Lichtenberg moved with his wife and children to Itamar about seven years ago. He was very popular among the residents of Itamar, and three weeks ago was elected to head the community committee. "He was a warm, friendly man," says a friend, adding that Meir was "always an optimist, never afraid of anything." Meir Lichtenberg was buried in Itamar. He left behind his wife, Kama, and five children.
