Zohar Shurgi
August 7, 2001 - Zohar Shurgi, 40, of Moshav Yafit in the Jordan Valley, was shot and killed by terrorists while driving home at night on the Trans-Samaria Highway. According to preliminary evidence, the Palestinians waited in ambush on a hill overlooking the road between Ariel and Tapuah, and when Zohar Shurgi drove by at 10:40 P.M., they fired on his car and then headed into Palestinian-controled Area A. A paramedic pronounced Zohar Shurgi dead at the scene. Zohar had lived with his wife Nava and their three children, aged 3 to 13, in Moshav Yafit for the past six years, to which they moved from Ashdod. As a building contractor in Tel-Aviv, he often traveled on the Trans-Samaria Highway, the most direct route from his home in the Jordan Valley. Zohar Shurgi was buried in Ashdod.
