Rosa Lehman


Aug 31, 2004 - Rosa Lehman, 45, of Beersheba was one of 16 people killed in twin suicide bus bombings in Beersheba city buses. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

The two explosions took place within minutes of each other on two Beersheba city buses, on route nos. 6 and 12, shortly before 3:00 P.M. The buses were traveling along Beersheba's main street, Rager Blvd, near the city hall. About 100 people were also wounded.

Rosa Lehman immigrated to Israel from Russia eight and a half years ago with her daughter and stepson. A veterinarian by profession, she found employment in Beersheba caring for the elderly. Rosa was returning home from work and from shopping at the market with her husband when she was killed. Her husband Yosef was moderately wounded.

Her daughter Yelena, from a previous marriage, said, "The first thing that comes to mind when I think of my mother is her good-naturedness, her generosity, helping others. She was everying for me, both father and mother." One of the elderly woman Rosa cared for phoned Yelena in tears, saying how much she had loved her.

Rosa Lehman was buried in Beersheba. She is survived by her husband Yosef, her daughter Yelena, 21, and stepson Alex, 20.
