Maurice Tubul
Mar 14, 2004 - Maurice Tubul, 30, of Ashdod was one of ten people were killed in a double suicide bombing at Ashdod Port. Hamas and Fatah claimed responsibility for the attack. Shortly before 5:00 p.m. the first terrorist got inside the port and blow himself up close to a group of workers standing next to a machine repair workshop. The explosion blew the roof off the workshop, and five workers were killed immediately. A few moments later, the second suicide terrorist detonated his bomb on the sidewalk in a storage and refrigeration area adjacent to the port. The blast destroyed a trailer, killing three office workers. Two others died in hospital; 16 were wounded. Maurice Tubul had just a few weeks ago received tenure as a mechanic at the Ashdod port and was due to sign a contract to buy an apartment. He was a close friend of Ashdod soccer players Haim and David Ravivo, with whom he had spent the morning. Haim Revivo left for Tel Aviv; Tubul remained in Ashdod with David. David Revivo said: "We had lunch, and then I went to practice with the team, and he went to work. While we were working out, we heard the two bomb explosions. We stopped the practice. Later I heard that Maurice - one of the greatest guys in the world - had been killed." Maurice Tubul will be buried in Ashdod. He is survived by his mother, Lilian, and three brothers: Sami, 33, Oren, 24, and Shai, 22.
