Sgt. Adi Osman
Oct 24, 2003 - Sgt. Adi Osman, 19, of Kfar Sava was one of three soldiers killed when a Palestinian terrorist infiltrated the army base in the Gaza Strip settlement of Netzarim and opened fire on the soldiers' barracks. Hamas and the Islamic Jihad claimed joint responsibility for the attack. At 4:20 AM, a Palestinian armed with a Kalachnikov rifle and a number of grenades infiltrated the security fence surrounding the Netzarim community and infiltrated an IDF base. The gunmen entered the female soldiers' barracks and opened fire, killing two - Sgt. Adi Osman and Sgt. Sarit Schneor-Senior - and seriously wounding another. St.-Sgt. Alon Avrahami, a medic, heard the initial gunfire and raced out of his quarters. He was shot and killed by the terrorist, who wounded another soldier before being intercepted and killed by IDF forces. Adi was born and raised in Kfar Sava, where her family runs two restaurants. She studied filmmaking and communications at the Ankori High School in Raanana before joining the army ten months ago, highly motivated and hoping to serve in a meaningful way. "She wanted to serve in a combat unit, she did not want to be a clerk. After completing a radio technicians course she was sent to serve in the Shimshon battalion in Gaza," her sister said. Friends and family described Adi as a bundle of energy, a person who was crazy about computers and loved to lend a helping hand to anyone. Adi was killed while sleeping in her bed. Sgt. Adi Osman was buried the military cemetery in Kfar Sava. She is survived by her parents, Yael and Shabtai, two sisters, Einat and Inbal, and a brother Yuval, who serves as a combat medic in the engineering corps.
