Yehiel (Emil) Tubol

Sept 9, 2003 - Yehiel (Emil) Tubol, 52, of Jerusalem one of seven people killed in a suicide bombing at Cafe Hillel on Emek Refaim St., the main thoroughfare of the German Colony neighborhood in Jerusalem.

Yehiel Tubol, whose family had immigrated to Israel from Morocco in 1962 and settled in Jerusalem, looked after his three daughters single-handedly since his wife passed away due to illness 12 years ago. His daughters still live in the family home in the Arnona neighborhood of Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, he went to Cafe Hillel for coffee to relax after a hard day's work. He had asked his brother Haim to join him, but Haim said he was tired. "He worked hard all his life to earn a living for his family, to buy a house and raise his girls and provide for their education," said his brother.

Yehiel worked as a house renovator and builder. Alona Angel, an architect with whom he worked, said, "It's ironic that someone who worked with Arabs was killed like this. He was an intelligent and gentle man, and completely honest. Everyone trusted him."

Yehiel (Emil) Tubol was buried in Jerusalem. He is survived by his three daughters, aged 28, 20 and 16.
