Alon Mizrahi

Sept 9, 2003 - Alon Mizrahi, 22, of Jerusalem was one of seven people killed in a suicide bombing at Cafe Hillel on Emek Refaim St., the main thoroughfare of the German Colony neighborhood in Jerusalem.

Alon Mizrahi had been working as a security guard at Cafe Hillel for the past three months. He was killed trying to prevent the bomber from entering the cafe. His brother Doron said, "I'm sure he knew he was stopping a terrorist. He saved at least 30 lives. Alon was a hero at heart. He was killed instantly and apparently didn't suffer."

Alon completed his high school studies at the Mevo'ot Yam school, and served as a mechanic in the Air Force and completed his service a year ago. His friends related that he dreamt of opening his own pub or cafe. Alon witnessed the suicide attack at the Sbarro pizzeria in August 2001. "He immediately ran to help the wounded. That was Alon."

Alon Mizrahi was buried in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, Menashe and Shoshana, three brothers and three sisters.
