David Shambik

June 5, 2003 - The bodies of David Shambik, 26, and Moran Menachem, 17, both of Jerusalem, were found near Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem, brutally beaten and stabbed to death.

After completing his shift as a security guard at the Kfar Shaul psychiatric hospital in Jerusalem, David (Dudu) Shambik went home for a short while and then went to pick up Moran. The two drove out of the city and stopped on the path linking Moshav Even Sapir and the Hadassah Hospital parking lot for what was to have been a romantic evening. It appears they were attacked some time around midnight. Their bodies were found the following morning, brutally beaten and stabbed to death. David's body was found next to his car, while Moran's body was found in the vehicle.

Dudu, whom his friends called the "lover," often took his girl friends to the grove near Hadassah Hospital. Although he worked as a security guard, he dreamt of becoming a journalist and studied communications at college in Petah Tikva. He also wrote poetry on current issues. His father Shimon said that David believed in co-existence and did not think that an Arab would kill him.

In one poem published several months ago, entitled "Arab Mother," Dudu wrote:

"Is it possible that there will be a sudden change, And you will understand that you were wrong and will alter your course. Will sanity emerge, giving a small chance, To build a new future for our people and your people."

David Shambik was buried in Jerusalem.
