Mihai Sabau
Jan 5, 2003 - Mihai Sabau, 38, of Romania was one of 22 people killed when two suicide bombers blew themselves up on a pedestrian mall in Tel Aviv's Naveh Sha'anan neighborhood near the old central bus station. Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, which apparently was assisted by Islamic Jihad. Mihai Sabau had gone shopping in the area of the old central bus station with his friend, Ion Nicolae, also from Romania. Both were killed in the explosion. Mihau Sabau, from the city of Brasov in Romania, a house painter by profession, had been working in Israel for seven years as a construction worker. His brother, who also works in Israel, said that this was the only way they could earn a living, as pay in Romania is so low. Mihau's wife, Angelica, came to Israel in the summer of 2001 and worked in a kindergarten. They have a 13-year-old son, Sebastian, who lives with an aunt in Bucharest. Both Mihai Sabau and Ion Nicolae were flown home for burial in Romania after a memorial ceremony at the Greek Orthodox church in Jaffa.
