Shaul Zilberstein


Nov 28, 2002 - Shaul Zilberstein, 36, of Upper Nazareth was one of six people killed when two terrorists opened fire and threw grenades at the Likud polling station in Beit She'an, where party members were casting their votes in the Likud primary.

At around 3:20 P.M. two terrorists arrived in a stolen vehicle, opened fire and threw grenades at people crowding around the Likud branch, which is located near the central bus station. Both terrorists were killed by a Border Police officer who lives in the area. The Fatah al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, in which six were killed and over 40 wounded. The terrorists were killed by an off-duty Border Policeman.

Shaul Zilberstein, who had recently completed a tour of reserve army duty in the territories, was serving as a security guard at the Likud polling station when he was shot and killed on his 36th birthday.

Shaul immigrated to Israel from Romania in 1988 with his older sister, Michaela. They were later joined by their mother, Mathilda. In 1995 he married Ilanit, and they had two daughters - Sharon (6) and Sivan (4).

Shaul Zilberstein was buried in Upper Nazareth. He is survived by his mother, sister, wife and two daughters.
