Ya'acov Lary


Nov 28, 2002 - Ya'acov Lary, 35, of Beit She'an was one of six people killed when two terrorists opened fire and threw grenades at the Likud polling station in Beit She'an, where party members were casting their votes in the Likud primary.

At around 3:20 P.M. two terrorists arrived in a stolen vehicle, opened fire and threw grenades at people crowding around the Likud branch, which is located near the central bus station. Both terrorists were killed by a Border Police officer who lives in the area. The Fatah al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, in which six were killed and over 40 wounded. The terrorists were killed by an off-duty Border Policeman.

Ya'acov Lary was born in Beit She'an, one of nine children in a religious family. He married Ilanit just nine months ago, and they were expecting their first child. Ya'acov worked during the past few years at the archeological excavations near Beit She'an. His brother, Rafi, served as deputy mayor of Beit She'an. After visiting his mother, Ya'acov went to the Likud branch to vote and was shot and killed at the entrance.

Ya'acov Lary was buried in Beit She'an. He is survived by his wife Ilanit, his parents, and eight siblings.
