Mircea Varga

Nov 21, 2002 - Mircea Varga, 25, a tourist from Romania, was one of 11 people killed in a suicide bombing on a No. 20 Egged bus in the Kiryat Menahem neighborhood of Jerusalem.

The bomber, wearing a five-kilogram bomb belt packed with explosives and shrapnel, boarded the bus at approximately 7:00 A.M. on Mexico street in Kiryat Menahem. Before it reached the next stop, the terrorist, who was standing in the front section of the bus, set off the bomb, killing 11 people and wounding about 50.

Mircea Varga arrived in Israel five weeks ago from Romania. He joined his sister Luciana who has been working here for several years, and began working in Jerusalem to pay back debts he incurred in Romania. They usually took the bus together in the morning, but on the morning of the bombing Luciana asked him to go on without her.

Mircea Varga will be buried in his home town in Romania, on the border with Moldava. He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
