St.-Sgt. Nir Nahum
October 21, 2002 - St.-Sgt. Nir Nahum, 20, of Karmiel, was one of 14 persons killed when a bus was blown up in a suicide attack by a terrorist driving an explosives-laden jeep near the Karkur junction. Nahum had hitched a ride in a nearby car destroyed by the blast. Nahum served as a company sergeant in the Artillery Corps. His father, Rami, a major in the reserves, praised his abilities. "As a company commander in the army, I've been through a lot with many soldiers and I've never met one like him...He was the pride of our family." Nahum was due to complete his compulsory service in another six months. He is a graduate of the ORT Kramim Vocational High School in Karmiel and is its fifth graduate to fall victim to the violence of the past several years. St.-Sgt. Nir Nahum was buried in the military section of the Karmiel Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Rami and Penina, three brothers, Shlomi, 23, Avihai, 14, Netanel, 10, and a sister, Bar, aged five.
