Cpl. Ilona Hanukayev

October 21, 2002 - Cpl. Ilona Hanukayev, 20, of Hadera, was one of 14 persons killed when a bus was blown up in a suicide attack by a terrorist driving an explosives-laden jeep near the Karkur junction.

Ilona immigrated to Israel with her parents and a sister from Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1990, and the family settled in Givat Olga. Ilona, who graduated from high school in Hadera, was an outstanding student who dreamed of continuing her studies after her army service, an aunt recalled yesterday.

Cpl. Ilona Hanukayev will be buried in the Hadera Military Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Sergei and and Raisa, and her sister, Yulia (17).
