Xu Hengyong
July 17, 2002 - Xu Hengyong, 39, of China was one of five people killed in a double suicide bombing on Neve Sha'anan Street near the old central bus station in Tel Aviv. The two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a distance of 15-20 meters apart on the busy Neve Sha'anan street at 10:10 P.M., an area frequented by many foreign workers. The bombs, which were strapped to the waists of the bombers, he said, contained nails and metal shards. Five people, three of them foreign workers, were killed and about 40 were injured. Xu Hengyong was a resident of Pingtan in East China's Fujian Province and an employee of the Fujian Futong International Economic Cooperation Company. He arrived in Tel Aviv in October in search of more lucrative work. On Wednesday evening, Xu Xiangxing went to the cafe with his cousin and his uncle Xu Hengyong. They sat near a table outside. The explosion occurred just 10 minutes after they arrived, Xu Xiangxing said. He was injured in the back and had to have surgery. Fellow worker Li Bin died of his injuries on July 24. Xu's wife, Zheng Lianyu, said the entire family was dependent on him financially and emotionally. His body was flown home to Pingtan. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter, ranging in age from 4 to 12.
