Lt. Elad Grenadier

July 17, 2002 - Lt. Elad Grenadier, 21, of Haifa was killed and three soldiers were wounded early Wednesday morning in an exchange of fire with the terrorists responsible for the attack in Emmanuel on July 16.

The IDF was determined not to let the gunmen who perpetrated the Emmanuel bus attack escape, and large forces backed by helicopters continued to scour the area east of Emmanuel. The searches went on throughout the night. Around 5:30 yesterday morning, a platoon from the Nahshon Brigade led by Lt. Elad Grenadier chanced upon the terrorists. Elad was the eldest son of Dr. Ehud Grenadier, a cardiologist at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, and Bruria, a social worker. He served as an example to his twin brothers, also soldiers, who looked up to him. One serves in the naval commando and the other in intelligence.

Elad joined the army three years ago after comleting his high school studies in Haifa. He served in the Nahshon Brigade during the entire period, serving in the territories, and completed an officers' course eight months ago.

Lt. Elad Grenadier was buried in the military cemetery in Haifa. He is survived by his parents, Ehud and Bruria, and his twin brothers, Eitan and Ido (19).
