Erez Rund

June 6, 2002 - Erez Rund, 18, of Ofra died of gunshot wounds to the chest sustained in a shooting attack near Ofra, north of Ramallah, when Palestinian terrorists opened fire from an ambush.

Erez Rund, a 12th student at the Meron yeshiva high school, got a ride from his home in Ofra to the nearby settlement of Eli, where he hoped to sign up for a pre-military course next year. On his return, at about 4.20 P.M., the car in which he was riding came under fire near the old British police station, from the direction of the Palestinian village of Sinjil. Rund was fatally wounded in the chest and died in hospital. The driver and his two children were unharmed.

Erez had been a counsellor in the Bnei Akiva youth movement for two years, admired by the youngsters. His friend Ro'i said that he advocated greater understanding between religious and secular Jews. Erez loved to hike and dreamt of being a combat soldier.

Erez Rund was buried in Ofra. He is survived by his parents, Yossi and Haya, two sisters, Ofra (24) and Aya (24), and a brother, Oren (21).
