Sgt. Michael Chizhik
Oct 28, 2004 - Sgt. Michael Chizhik, 21, of Tiberias was killed and six other soldiers wounded in a mortar shell attack on an IDF outpost at Morag in the southern Gaza Strip. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. Around 2:30 P.M., the IDF outpost at Morag was hit by two mortar shells and fire from sharpshooters from the direction of Khan Yunis. One shell registered a direct hit on a group of soldiers at the outpost. Sgt. Michael Chizhik, who suffered a mortal head wound, was evacuated to Soroka Hospital and died several hours later. Michael Chizhik immigrated to Israel from Ukraine with his mother Yehudit and sister Lena several years ago, his father remaining behind. The three settled in Tiberias. Sgt. Michael Chizhik was buried in Tiberias. He is survived by his parents and sister.
