Tatiana Ackerman

Nov 1, 2004 - Tatiana Ackerman, 32, of Tel Aviv was one of three people were killed in a suicide bombing at the Carmel Market in central Tel Aviv.

Shortly after 11:00 on Monday morning, as the outdoor Carmel Market in central Tel Aviv was filled with shoppers, a 16-year-old suicide bomber, identified as Amar Alfar, 16, from the Askar refugee camp in Nablus, detonated himself. Three people were killed and over 30 wounded. The blast went off at a food stall near the intersection of Rambam and Hacarmel Streets. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack, carried out by a 16-year-old youth from Nablus.

Tatiana Ackerman immigrated to Israel from Irkutsk in Russia four years ago with her husband and 14-year-old daughter. Striving to make a new and happy life for the family, Tatiana worked two shifts, from 7:00 in the morning until 21:00 in the evening, as a caretaker for the elderly. The family had just recently moved to their present apartment, and neighbors related that they would see her walking the dog with her daughter.

On the morning of the bombing, Tatiana had gone shopping at the Carmel Market for one of the elderly women in her care, and was killed.

Tatiana Ackerman was buried in the Yarkon Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Valery, her daughter Katia, and her mother and sister, still living in Russia.
