Must Jews Repeat History - Again? |
June 13, 2003 |
Is there something in we Jews that uses history’s lessons but, only up to a certain point - and then we cannot cross that critical threshold? We stop. We go back to the beginning. We start again - with the same mistakes. We "did" Oslo. We had all the experiences necessary with Yassir Arafat, the Palestinians, the U.S. State Department, the Leftist Media, Academics and Government members. We learned it all - and then ignored what we learned. But, we could not bring ourselves to go on from that point. We had to go back and start all over again. We accepted the "Road Map" (which was changed by the "Quartet" from President Bush June 24, 2002 speech ). This so-called "Road Map" was a duplicate of but worse than the Oslo Accords. In response to the daily killing of American soldiers in Iraq, Bush approved an attack, called "Peninsula Strike", on the Iraqi training base of Terrorist base in Al Kahn. Using F16s, Apache Helicopters and AC gun ships - all firing missiles, cannon, 50 caliber bullets - killing 60 Terrorists. And yet, despite his own policy to defend American soldiers, President Bush ‘rebukes’ Israel for their targeting on June 10th Abdel Aziz Rantisi, a Hamas Chieftain who planned many of the PLO’s Terrorist attacks. Rantisi is responsible for murdering 227 Israelis [as well as Americans and other nationals] and the wounding of at least 1,393 others just since the beginning of the latest Arab Palestinian Terror War 3 years ago. (1) It is not surprising to see such similar language in the headlines of at least 3 newspapers of today June 11th: "Bush Rebukes Israel for Attack on Hamas Leader" WALL ST. JOURNAL - "Bush Rebukes Israel for Attack in Gaza" NEW YORK TIMES - "Bush Chides Israel: Attacks Don’t Help" CHICAGO SUN-TIMES - " ...Rantisi Survives; Attack Sparks U.S. Criticism" CHICAGO TRIBUNE. This string of apparent coincidences merely demonstrates that the news is ‘fed’ to the Media, probably by leaks from the Arabist State Department. Further analyses of these articles and other newspapers would show continuing similarity of language and outlook. It is NOT surprising that the companion story in the NEW YORK TIMES of June 11th has this headline: "G.I.’s in Iraqi city are Stalked by Faceless Enemies At Night" (by Michael Gordon). Indeed, the story could have easily read: "Israeli civilians stalked by familiar Arab Palestinian Terrorists day and night". The PLO’s Terror attacks make the Bush "Road Map" not only irrelevant but also suicidal as suicide bombers continue their deadly attacks. June 11th Hamas took credit for a vicious Homicide bombing on Bus 14A in the middle of Jerusalem on Jaffa Street between the Clal Building and the Davidka Monument, opposite Machaneh Yehuda (the Jewish shuk). So far, 16 people have been brutally murdered, with as many as 135 grievously wounded, some fighting for their lives, five in comas, 8 in the Intensive Care Units. The bomber was disguised as an Orthodox man. We just had to relive history again, again and again. We could go back further. We learned some bitter lessons about our killers and those who refused to rescue us during WW2. We learned the lessons of escape when the British did everything possible to contain the Jews from escaping the Hell of Europe into Palestine - the one place the world voted to be the Homeland for the Jews. We Jews knew what the Europeans were like then, before "then", and now. We seemingly learned the lessons of 1948 and the attacking Arabs but then again, we really didn’t learn the lesson because, it happened again in 1956, 1967, 1969-70, 1973, 1982 and we suffered the Gulf War SCUDS in 1991 at home in our sealed rooms. We suffered, then responded in a short burst of justifiable self-defense. Then we quickly accepted the demands for "restraint" by the Free World, especially America and more Jews were murdered. The outcome of Israeli "restraint" in the 1991 Gulf War was the Madrid Conference, which led to acceptance of the Oslo Accords and further onerous agreements which turned victory into appeasement and apologetic defeat. We Jews knew that the Arabs had promised to attack and kill the Jews and that they did - before 1948 and after. As Jews, we ignored the evidence of their history and their spoken declarations and our history in sporadically defending our Promised Land. We always went back to the beginning and started the whole thing over again - as if the Past never happened. We just didn’t learn one thing - not one bloody thing from our whole long bloody history. They, the Others, the Muslim Arabs hated us because we were Jews. That’s it, in brief. We were always brought back to the starting line by our Jewish leaders who simply couldn’t face the reality of our own history. They just couldn’t cross the last line and deal with our enemies from our last point of conflict. They wanted to be liked by both our enemies and the friends of our enemies. They never received the respect that we Jews deserve for all benefits that we have brought to humanity in science, medicine, music, education and morality. None of this brought respect but only contempt for the Jews, as individuals and now as a State, pleading for recognition as a good people. We saw our leaders learn - up to a point - and then turn on a dime and go back to the beginning. Rabin, Peres, Netanyahu, Barak and now Sharon. They were all taught the lessons of war against an implacable, declared enemy and yet, all in their time, ignored their life’s experience as soldiers and leaders. They all turned back to the beginning and tried to appease the enemy who had sworn to kill them. Some were worse than others but in the end, they all turned back, making the Jewish nation and the Jewish people vulnerable. Now, once again, we are directed by an American President who tells the Jewish State: "Do as I say and not as I do." As American soldiers are being murdered by Iraqi Muslim Terrorists, we quite correctly order a strong military response. America soldiers no longer accept the smiling Iraqi Muslim Terrorists at face value because it is likely that he has a hidden gun. Now, we have roadblocks, checkpoints and are quick to shoot suspicious Arabs. The American President has not ordered our troops to restrain themselves lest it disturb the pacification/Peace Process. Instead, Bush tells Israel to ignore Terror murdering her people and NOT to respond, let it weaken the "Peace Process" and Abu Mazen. At the same time, President Bush publically attacks Prime Minister Sharon for responding to Terrorist attacks by Hamas, leaving five dead Israeli soldiers at the Erez Junction to Gaza and another dead soldier in Hebron. Sharon ordered the attack on the Hamas leader who planned the attacks. Bush tells America that Israel’s attack on one of Arafat’s Chief Terrorists, Abdel Aziz Rantisi was "not helpful" - "it makes it more difficult for the Palestinians to make peace". The hypocrisy is so blatant that we, as Americans, are embarrassed. We, as Americans, can justifiably respond to the 9/11Terrorist attacks against America by starting 2 full scale wars - first against Afghanistan and then Iraq. But, the U.S. State Department declares that Israel must "accept the killings" caused by the Road Map of the Bush/Powell "Quartet". These acts are exactly the same as those committed by radical Muslim Arabs who are killing our American soldiers. But, that’s OK for Israel to endure, according to the Bush/Powell State Department. In the first 3 days after the Aqaba conference and handshakes, there were 24 Arab Muslim Terror attacks against Israeli Jews. Come now, Mr. President. Don’t play the fool. While you may think you can have it both ways, the American public will NOT buy your political thrust against Israel in order for you to look commandingly Presidential for the 2004 elections. Betraying a loyal friend and ally will not look good on your record and you can never explain it away. America is pursuing radical Arab Islamic fundamentalists, so far only in Iraq and Afghanistan because they are at war with us. They attacked us on 9/11/01, the U.S.S. Cole, the American Embassies in Africa, the Saudi Barracks, the Marine barracks and American Embassy in Lebanon, the bombing of the World Trade Center in1993, the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie. (3) The same Islamic fundamentalists continue to attack Israel’s Jewish people and we cannot tell them to cease defending themselves just because the Arab Muslims and the U. S. State Department consider it will affect America’s oil interests. You cannot press Israel to once again go back to the beginning of another fiasco like Oslo as if nothing has ever happened. But, since President Bill Clinton pushed Israel to sign the Oslo Accords on the White House Lawn with the Head of the PLO, Yassir Arafat, his multi-headed Terror organizations have murdered more than 1300 Israelis, at least 40 Americans, wounded tens of thousands, many maimed for life, created new orphans and widows. Israel has every right and obligation to fight back and defend her country and her people. It is no secret that, for reasons of elections, Mr. President, that you have threatened Israel with all sorts of penalties if she doesn’t accommodate Arafat’s new stooge, Mahmoud Abbas *(aka Abu Mazen), despite suffering ever increasing Terror attacks. Threatening Israel with sanctions, including the cut-off of aviation fuel and grounding their Air Force is an ugly use of Presidential power. Threatening embargoes and the cancellation of vital Intelligence, as was done by then U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, is an act of outright hostility. This and much more were used to force Israel to create another Muslim Terror State in the heartland of the Jewish State of Israel. Even as American soldiers are ordered to fight back and kill all their tormentors because it is right to do so, you tell Israel to cease her self-defense. Do not demand that the Jews of Israel repeat their history of allowing her people to be murdered while showing the restraint ordered up by the restrictions of your "Road Map". As a relevant aside, we see in today’s WALL ST. JOURNAL an exposé (2) of your political advisor who has been quietly linked up with supporting Islamic causes here in America. This is the same Karl Rove who advised you to ignore Israel’s defensive ‘red lines’ and humanitarian concerns during your meetings at Sharm el-Sheik and Aqaba. Perhaps it is time to dump your Islamic-leaning advisor and take a hard look at the reality of Arab Terror as you did with alacrity after 9/11. Adopting the Arab Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen aka Terrorist partner of Yassir Arafat and using our American CIA to arm and train even more Terrorists as George Tenet did before, makes you look like either a foolish or a perfidious "friend" who cannot be trusted. People will remember that you won only by 500 questionable votes and once public confidence begins to descend, it will plummet. There is yet time for you to return to your earlier 9/11 persona or the electorate may force you to return to your ranch in 2004 with a Chamberlain-esque reputation. 1.
