Haim Shur: 'Arafat is an Arch-Liar, an Arch-Murderer'
Memri
Haim Shur is a well-known intellectual leader and veteran of Israel's peace camp. He is the former Editor of Israel's Socialist Party ("Mapam") daily "Al Ha'mishmar," and "The New Outlook," the English journal of Israel's Left which called for a dialogue with the PLO and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state before anyone else did, during the 1980s. In a comprehensive interview with Ma'ariv, Shur claimed that the Palestinians deceived and manipulated Israel's peace camp. He stated he has recently come to realize that the entire peace process was a part of the Palestinian phased plan to destroy Israel, admitted he believes the Israeli Left was misleading the Israeli public, and that there are no chances for peace in the near future. Following are excerpts from Shur's interview... |
Remember the Bible
Michael Freund
It almost seems axiomatic that regardless of whether the current
cease-fire takes hold, the propaganda war between Israel and the
Palestinians will continue. Even if the Bush administration succeeds in
silencing the guns on the ground, the battle for public opinion will
endure on our television screens, with each side trying to paint the
other as the primary culprit.
As in any conflict, Israel's defenders will have to consider the tools
at their disposal and use them as wisely and judiciously as possible. It
is therefore perhaps time for advocates of Israel to reconsider an
unfortunate taboo that has taken hold in recent years, one that has
weakened Israel's position and requires a thorough reassessment: 'Thou
shalt not mention in public the Biblical right of the Jewish people to
the Land of Israel.'

Oslo Revisited
Ehud Ya'ari (Jer. Report)
Israelis have reached a general consensus about Arafat, but not about the
process that brought him into our neighborhood.
It has become very fashionable in Israel to sit around taking Yasser Arafat
to pieces. He's being swamped with invective from the right, of course, but
also from the left regarding his personality, his character traits and his
political conduct. The image of the rais wasn't exactly snow-white even
before the new intifada. It is now, in my view, absolutely and indelibly
stained. Even Prof. Amiram Goldblum, one of the founding fathers of Peace
Now, recently saw fit to mention the "sausagey fingers" of Arafat, "a man
who hasn't done a decent day's work in his life," and even went on to relate
how he was overcome by nausea when Arafat once slopped wet kisses on a
colleague. Suffice it to say that Arafat is now perceived across the board
as a leader with zero credibility, a rich repertoire of lies and an
obsession for bloodshed.

Loyalty to the "Good Ol' Boys"
Uri Milstein
Well known (and controversial) historian, Uri Milstein, takes us back to the first stages of Israel to explain how things work today. Known for his sharp tongue and even sharper mind, this is a must read for any of those who wish to know what is really happening in the political world of the State of Israel. |

Arafat is Making Fools of Everyone
Moshe Schiff
There is no better example of the cynical attitude of the Palestinian Authority (PA), and of PA Chairman Arafat himself, to acts of terror, and of their disdain for keeping agreements, than their handling of the slaughter carried out by a suicide bomber at the discotheque in the Tel Aviv Dolphinarium that has now claimed 21 young lives. The Shin Bet (General Security Services) quickly found out who was involved in this act of terror. At a meeting of the Supreme Security Committee, Israel presented the Palestinian delegates with the names of two Hamas men who had sent the bomber: one from Nablus, and one from Qalqiliyah. The Palestinians were asked to arrest the two immediately - and the Americans supported this demand... |
Arafat, Saddam, Hezb'allah & Bin Laden
Winston Mideast Analysis & Commentary
There is one interlocking relationship which Washington should be investigating. That is the Bin Laden-Arafat relationship. There will, no doubt, be an immediate denial by Arabists and the PA (Palestinian Authority). But, take a harder look at Arafat's relationship with Saddam Hussein, Hezb'Allah (controlled by Iran) and from there to Bin Laden. Any friend of Saddam also becomes a friend of Bin Laden. Then there are the proxies of Syria's Assad, the Hezb'Allah who are also grateful to Bin Laden for funding and cross-over linkage to other terrorist groups. U.S. and European Intelligence knows that the family of Terrorism is one loosely connected mechanism which operated both individually and together. |

The Real Criminals
Uri Dan (J Post)
The BBC has for years engaged in incitement
against Israel in its programming, long before it
concocted this week's new blood libel against Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon regarding the 1982 slaughter of
Palestinian refugees by Christian Phalangists.
If we look only at the last eight months, numerous BBC
television and radio broadcasts have presented the
Palestinians as an underdog oppressed by the Israelis -
even though Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser
Arafat started this terrorist war at a time when Ehud
Barak and his foreign minister, Shlomo Ben-Ami, were
ready to concede virtually everything to the Palestinians,
including the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Arafat - Hamas - Islamic Jihad are Joined at the Hip
Winston Mideast Analysis & Commentary
The statement squeezed from Yassir Arafat by the world community was an
interesting bit of Arafat flim-flam, knowingly carried forward by the
World Media. What Arafat really said to his own people in Arabic was
that: "I am ready to consider a cease-fire". Was the Media so ready to
be fooled?
What the Media printed and the squeezing nations chose to believe was
that he said: "I will implement a cease-fire". Now, under pressure from
the U.S., Arafat has agreed to a "sort of" cease fire. Hamas, one of
Arafat's operational partners has stated that it will continue its
terror attacks. Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing in Tel Aviv
that killed 20 teenage Israelis, mostly girls - maiming 120 - some for
life.

Freeze Arab Settlements
Michael Freund
Since Yasser Arafat announced his acceptance of a cease-fire last week,
over 40 mortar shells have been fired at Jewish communities in Gaza,
several Israelis have been injured in shooting attacks in Judea and
Samaria, and 5-month old Yehuda Shoham died after being assaulted by
Palestinian stone-throwers near Shilo.
Perhaps someone should point out to the Palestinian leader that the
Mitchell report calls for a 'cease-fire', not a 'please fire'. It may
just be an issue of semantics, but the difference between the two is
fairly significant.

Informed Thoughts and Suggestions on Israel's Survival
Louis Rene Beres - Professor of International Law
The Oslo Agreements are null and void according to international law. All
states are obligated by international law to seek out and prosecute the
perpetrators of crimes of war, crimes against peace and crimes against
humanity. The same obligation extends to crimes of terrorism. Derived
from the peremptory norm of Nullum crimen sine poena! ("No Crime Without a
Punishment!"), this obligation was violated flagrantly by Israel's "peace"
agreements with a terrorist organization.
Indeed, recognizing that,
according to Article 53 of the VIENNA CONVENTION ON THE LAW OF TREATIES,
any agreement "...is void, if at the time of its conclusion, it conflicts with
a peremptory norm of general international law," the Oslo agreements,
witnessed officially by representatives of the United States, should be
disregarded. Conflicting with a peremptory or jus cogens norm, a norm that,
according to Article 53 of the VIENNA CONVENTION is "a norm accepted and
recognized by the international community of states as a whole as a norm
from which no derogation is permitted....," the agreements confer no
jurisprudential responsibilities of any kind.

Terrorism on Trial
Daniel Pipes and Steven Emerson (WSJ)
On Tuesday, a federal jury in New York returned a guilty verdict against
the four defendants accused of plotting the terrorist bombing, three
years ago, of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The successful
prosecution of these murderers represents a great victory for the United
States, for the principle of justice, and for the rule of law. We are
all in debt to the brave and capable prosecutors.
Unfortunately, the trial does almost nothing to enhance the safety of
Americans. The Qaeda group, headed by the notorious Osama bin Laden,
which perpetrated the outrages in East Africa, will barely notice the
loss of four operatives. Indeed, recent information shows that Al-Qaeda
is not only planning new attacks on the U.S. but is also expanding its
operational range to countries such as Jordan and Israel.

Anthony Lewis Drips Poison
Winston Mideast Analysis & Commentary
In a recent column in the NEW YORK TIMES (1) Anthony Lewis expresses a
brief moment of horror at the fate of two Jewish boys in Israel who were
bludgeoned to death by Arabs. For purposes of discussion, I will pretend
that Lewis is not the anti-Semite and bigot he has proven himself to be
through hundreds of his columns targeted at the Jewish State. Perhaps he
is merely dupe or stooge for U.S. State Department mis/disinformation.
His defense and apologia for the killers were that they were pushed into
this horrific act by the "settlements". Not the mere presence of Jews -
but the "settlements". This word "settlements" or "settlers" shall be
the Lewis cutting edge - explaining murder, rage and, in passing, hate
for the Jews which, of course, has been symptomatic of the usual Lewis
diatribe.

Israeli Oslo Promoters Shirk Responsibility
Dan Margalit (Haaretz)
In a very important article, left wing publicist, Dan Margalit aims hard
questions at the "architects of the Oslo accords" - until now, a
privileged species. He accuses them of continuing to claim that Arafat is not
responsible :for the current situation:
"The prevalent spirit among members of this group is present in a significant
working paper prepared by one of the "Oslo architects," Dr. Ron Pundak. In
the document, Pundak asks "What went wrong?" on the road from Oslo to Taba.
This question, however, should really be directed at Pundak and at his
colleagues."

The Only Strategy
Boris Shusteff
June 1, is the International Day for Children's Protection. The
Palestinian Arabs celebrated it by a barbaric murder of 19 and maiming
of more than 100 Israeli children and youth. IsraelNationalNews.com
reported that "on June 3 the PA city of Ramallah awakened to jubilance,
with many people firing their weapons in the air as they danced with joy
over the killing of Jews in Tel Aviv." The heinous terrorist attack
that became the crescendo of the Arab terror response to the unilateral
Israeli cease fire only emphasized how desperately the Jewish state
needs a strategy for survival.
However, it does not mean that the Sharon's government is finally ready
to eradicate Arafat's criminal regime and return to the territories
granted to the PA. Even the people like the former Israeli Defense
Minister Moshe Arens, an advocate of harsh actions, only suggest that
the "certain strategic locations in the "A" zone will have to be
occupied by the IDF", thus not going far enough.

Media Manipulation By Israel's Media
Winston Mideast Analysis & Commentary
I have watched with interest and alarm the biased attitudes of Israel's
three leading Hebrew journals. While the ethics of the world Media are
or should be to present the facts in an accurate and unbiased manner,
this has not always been the case.
We know, of course, that PRAVDA was the voice the Soviet/Russian
government. Similarly, AL AHRAM the lead Egyptian journal has a tight
rein on what is printed or said. For that matter, the newspapers and TV
reporters in most Arab countries would not dare defy government policy
or its editors would find themselves eating prison slop. Every country,
even democracies, try to influence the Media.
